GOVERNOR M. JODI RELL TO BE HONORARY CHAIRPERSON
FOR THE FIDELCO GUIDE DOG FOUNDATION’S
50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Governor to Participate Throughout 2010
Bloomfield, Conn.-The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Inc. has announced that Her Excellency, M. Jodi Rell, Governor of Connecticut, will be the honorary chairperson for its 50th anniversary celebration in 2010. In that role, she will lend her name and take part in a number of events throughout the year in support of the organization’s mission of providing top-quality guide dogs to people with visual disabilities.
The Governor issued a proclamation on December 4, 2009 that reads, in part, “For 50 years, the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation has served men and women with visual disabilities and the State of Connecticut with great distinction. Congratulations on this remarkable milestone and may the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation continue its success with another 50 years of service to Connecticut.”
After meeting with the governor, Eliot D. Russman, Fidelco’s CEO and executive director said, “We’re honored that the governor will join our year-long celebration of serving men and women who are blind. As a longtime supporter of the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Governor Rell brings a new level of excitement to our 50th anniversary. We look forward to having her with us throughout the year.”
Fidelco, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Bloomfield, Conn., breeds, trains and places its own, unique type of German shepherd guide dogs with people who have visual disabilities. It pioneered In-community Placement in the United States; a process that allows guide dog users to be trained in the communities where they live and work. Fidelco relies solely on the gifts and the generosity of individuals, foundations, corporations and civic organizations to help it “Share the Vision.”
